Meet George

Retired Lieutenant from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement division with 25 ½ years of service.  During my years of service with the Sheriff I was required to attend many classes to learn the thing I needed to know to do the job. While attending these classes, I observed many different teaching styles from good instructors and some not so good instructors. The thing that stuck in my mind was that the instructors that had a passion for what they were instructing did more for each class than the instructors that just got paid to teach someone. I started to look at the way people were instructing more closely and saw a lot of instructors sitting behind a podium reading from a book and I watched students sleeping or doodling not paying attention and defiantly not learning anything. I was given the opportunity to take the NYS DCJS Instructor Development program to become a Law Enforcement instructor so I took it. 80 hours of work, NOT including late nights and working all day long on the weekends. I believe it is one of the hardest Law Enforcement Courses there are. I became certified as a General Topics Instructor, Specialty Instructor in RADAR/LIDAR operation, Emergency Vehicle Operation (EVOC), Counter Terrorism, Incident Command, NIMS ATV/UTV safety operation and many other topics. I became a member of “LETDANYS” Law Enforcement Training Directors Association of New York State, This group has members from all over New York State that have direct ties to the Buru of Municipal Police, The Department of Homeland Security and the NYS Department of Criminal Justice. This is a great group of individuals that are the best of the best instructor/ trainers in New York State.

Born and raised in Port Jervis, New York. A great little City located where New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania Meet. Where I now reside with my wife Laurie A. Haas and our family.

At age 18, I joined the elite group of men and women, one of the best decisions I have ever made,  of The Port Jervis Volunteer Fire Department, becoming a member of Neversink Engine Company Number 1, I served the Company as a Fire Fighter, Driver, 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant and then Captain. Today I am still a proud member of this outstanding group.

I developed an interest in Fire Investigation in the early part of my Fire Service career. I spent a lot of time learning how and why things burn, I became a Certified NYS Fire Investigator worked with the Orange County Fire Investigations Team out of The Office of The Fire Coordinator in Goshen, New York. I am now retired from that position.

My work history also includes working as a mechanic, NYS Motor Vehicle Inspector, a heavy equipment operator, driving a tractor trailer (coast to coast & locally), building swimming pools both in and above ground, Driving a septic truck, dump truck and tow truck. I have worked in the field of construction doing carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, electronic wiring, network hardware installation, tile work, sheet rocking, trimming and more.

My life history includes driving racing cars at local tracks, ATV riding, boating, water sports, hunting, fishing, being a proud step-father and a proud grand-father.

.

When I retired, I battled with some health issues, AND I WON! While recovering I decided that it was time to get back to work, I started the business Training Safety Institute. I am using all of my life experiences to teach safety to any and everyone.

My belief is, we should all do what we do
The Proper Way and The Safe Way,

“Because Safety Matters”

Every day I receive more and more calls for us to come and instruct classes for volunteer groups, civic & religious organizations, Municipal Governments, large and small companies as well as individuals. I have one of the very few organizations that offer a pay back to local not-for-profit organization for the number of students I have in each class. I also offer donations to charity organizations of choice, from businesses that I serve
